Good & Evil

Is there evil in this world?

Choose goodness from God
Choose goodness from God

That seems pretty obvious. We see that our country alone is literally at war amongst itself. Young and innocent are being attacked daily and more than we could have ever imagined by other Americans opening fire all over this country. Including places we think should be safe, churches and schools. The biggest evil is something we are putting into each one of our children's hands along with our own, the phone.

I saw a post on Instagram last week that confirmed something that I have said repeatedly, that the phone is evil. The actual reference that I use to say was that it was the devil. This is also the wording that the post said as well. The thought of the devil tends to turn people away. However, he is real. And we can no longer leave our heads buried in the sand, and not acknowledge that he is real.

These devices have put up another wall to keep our kids and even many adults trapped inside their own heads. The phone can also make us feel like we are on our own private island, unreachable. However, the phone will continue to target your weaknesses. The way it does this is by making you question who you are, where you belong, and whether you matter. These little whispers fill you with shame and block out God's voice of love.

The greatest trick of the devil is to try and convince you that he is not real. He does this so that you won't try to resist him. He longs to waste your time and keep you from worshipping God. Evil wants you to believe that truth is relative. He whispers, "as long as you're happy, it's right." We are not meant to live in a constant state of happiness. How then would we appreciate complete happiness?

There is a baseline for truth, but the devil wants each one of us to think that our own truth is good. He wants to keep us busy. Too busy for church, friends, family and connection with anything good. Too busy to ask eternal questions. Evil longs for you to hold onto that phone so that you won't fold your hands in prayer.

Evil not only divides families, but churches. "Petty arguments, comparison, offense, celebrity culture. If I can get Christians fighting each other, they'll never fight me." -Rich Wilkerson.

The devil also longs for us to be desensitized. The goal is for us to be confused. Sin is visible in our entertainment and normalized and celebrated. What once shocked us now entertains us.

Evil is like a carrot dangling in front of us . The phone in our hands is not meant to be on our bodies like an appendage. It should not be attached to us at all times. What God does say should be buried in our hearts is His words.

Each one of us has a barometer for right and wrong inside us. We are able to decipher between good and evil. Good will sustain us, and evil will destroy us. Good comes from God, and evil comes from the devil.

"He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord." - 2 Chronicles 12:14

Throughout the month of October, I hope you will accept the Proverbs challenge. Read one chapter of Proverbs each day. This is God's word and guidance for each one of us to obey and use to help us draw closer to goodness.

I will post a Chapter daily corresponding with the day of the month. It is up to you to read and receive God's message every single day of October. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Blessings on each one of you today and every day.

"Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." - Luke 11:28
